Álex Márquez finished the Dell'Emilia Romagna Grand Prix seventh, his best result of his season as a rookie in the premier class.
The Misano Marco Simoncelli circuit was the host of a new race of the 2020 MotoGP championship. The Dell'Emilia Romagna Grand Prix could not have gone better for the rookie of the premier class and Repsol Honda rider: Álex Márquez. After a weekend of constant progression, the man from Cervera crossed the finish line in seventh position, proving that reliability and perseverance are his best weapon.
The Italian track started to be familiar to the rookie of the category, but things were very tight during the qualifying. For this reason, and despite setting a time of 1 minute, 32 seconds and 198 thousandths, Márquez started on Sunday from seventeenth position on the grid. His progression was remarkable and the Cervera rider looked more comfortable than ever on the RC213V. Everything seemed to indicate that the results should come sooner than later.
Alex's departure was perfect and at the end of the first lap he had already climbed several positions. Confidence was key to this improvement and he was very strong in the morning warm-up, setting his best time on the track. The race has been, to say the least, rough. Many drivers went down, and the tires made the difference in the Dell'Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Alex’s intelligence came to light and his precision led him to reduce his race time by 17 seconds. Finally, he crossed the finish line ten places ahead of his starting mark, rising with the best result of the season. This seventh position will give him even more strength and courage to face the next race, which will be next weekend at the Catalan Grand Prix in Montmeló.
Upon arrival at the paddock Álex commented: “I am satisfied, as I think we certainly had the pace to be in the top ten. I want to thank the Repsol Honda team for their hard work, we are getting stronger and now I really want to get to Catalonia ”.
The comeback of MV Agusta Forward Racing
Stefano Manzi and Simone Corsi started from the seventh and eighth row of the grid on Sunday but that was no impediment for them to finish in the Top15.
The race was marked by the red flag due to intermittent rain that occurred in some areas of the track. After the restart of the race, Corsi made a final sprint that took him up to 12th position while his partner Manzi, finished in 15th position after a battle that lasted until the last lap.
