Bimota secures a double podium, something that hadn’t happened since 1988.
Thirty-eight years have passed since two riders from the team stood on the podium during the same weekend. The Italian-Japanese squad could only celebrate the three podium finishes achieved yesterday at the Phillip Island Circuit in the 2026 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship.
Axel Bassani (#47) enjoyed a perfect weekend with two victories —in the Superpole Race and Race 2—, while his teammate Alex Lowes (#22) claimed third place in Sunday morning’s Superpole session.
Bassani said:
“This has been my most successful WorldSBK weekend, 100%. I really enjoyed Race One yesterday because I was able to make a lot of overtakes, but today we achieved exactly what we wanted. We are second in the championship, but for me the most important thing is to have a good feeling with the bike and within the team.”
These results make for a very promising start to the season, with Bassani second in the standings and Lowes eleventh.
