Marc's incessant fight in Aragon

Marc Márquez returns to the podium after his toughest battle of the season against Pecco Bagnaia, while Pol Espargaró saves points in 13th place.

When the MotoGP riders arrived at the MotorLand circuit on Friday ready to race the Aragón GP, they found a clear sky and pleasant environmental conditions for the opening day, keeping the ambient temperature around 25ºC and reaching that of the track 44ºC in the afternoon. The Honda riders, with their respective RC213Vs, finished the first session in the top ten, and all of the riders one second behind the top seed in combined times.

Marc Márquez started the day proving to be in good shape, dominating Free Practice 1 with a super fast lap at the end of the session (1'48.048). A crash at Turn 16 during Free Practice 2 altered Marc's pace, and although he emerged unscathed from the crash, he decided not to push to improve his track time.

Pol Espargaró, who was testing his RC213V for the first time at the MotorLand circuit, finished tenth in FP1, but four tenths behind the top three. Although he cut 1.4 seconds between FP1 and FP2, his fastest lap time of the day, a 1'48.166, saw him slip away from the top 10 by just 0.080 seconds.

On Saturday, during free practice 3, Marc Márquez was able to lower his best time to 1'47.185, finishing in eighth position and earning a safe place in Q2. Later, he suffered his second crash of the weekend on the final lap of FP3, slipping into Turn 14. Although uninjured, the eight-time world champion failed to set a final fastest lap, but kept his place in the top ten. Later in FP4, # 93 led the session and improved his lap time right at the end. It turned out to be a very productive session for Marc, who ended up very satisfied with his work on the track.

Márquez posted a best time of 1'46.736 on the last lap of Q2, just one tenth of his lap record. Cervera's fourth place on the starting grid is his best result since he returned to competition, having started the German, Austrian and British GPs from fifth on the grid.

On his side, Pol started well on Saturday and continued to improve his lap time (1'47.134) to secure a place in Q2. During Free Practice 4, he kept improving his pace and took eighth place, just 0.381 behind his teammate. Finally, Espargaró set a best time of 1'47.194 to secure eighth place on the starting grid.

The morning fog delayed the heat of Sunday in Aragon, although not for long. When the fog cleared, it gave way to the hottest day of the weekend. When the MotoGP riders were getting ready to get on the grid, the track temperature was already approaching 50 ° C.

From the second row of the grid, Márquez launched himself forward from the start and immediately showed that he was going to fight alongside Bagnaia, who was right in front of him. They were together for the entire race, consistently matching each other's lap times and opening up a considerable lead over those battling for third place. Márquez spent much of the race behind the Ducati rider, keeping his cool, studying and looking for the Italian's weaknesses. As the final five laps started, the # 93 picked up his pace and began to increase the pressure on Bagnaia before beginning the steady assault that he put between the ropes on his opponent.

In the last three laps, the lead changed a total of fourteen times, as Marc and Pecco battled for first place. In true Marquez style, # 93 refused to give up until the last minute. And, after one last, ambitious move into Turn 12, Marc finally took a well deserved second place and his second podium of the season.

Pol Espargaró had a solid start of the race, maintaining his position within the top 10. Already on the fourth lap, Espargaró was behind Rins and followed him for several laps, while both sought that place in the top ten. Pol briefly regained control for the battle before finally finishing in 13th place, racking up just three more points. # 44 ended the weekend disappointed, but looking forward to the next GP.

The 14th round of the World Championship will be held next weekend in Misano.
